We use Botox® to relieve TMJ jaw pain, make life easier for new denture wearers, erase smile lines, and even relieve migraine headaches.
Botox® at the Dentist’s Office
The Botox® serum is a purified, FDA-standardized preparation made from botulinum bacteria. When injected strategically into certain muscles and muscle groups, it temporarily blocks nerve signals that move those muscles, allowing them to relax. The same mechanism helps in dental applications as well. If you are a suitable candidate for Botox® injections to treat your condition, the treatments last between 10-20 minutes and the effects can last between three and four months. Jaw Pain Relief for TMJ Disorder
Botox® temporarily relaxes tight, tense jaw muscles that can lead to the jaw pain of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ). This relieves the pain, clicking, popping, and jaw-locking problems associated with TMJ, while also helping resolve one of the frequent causes of TMJ: stress-related bruxism—the overnight teeth grinding that many patients aren’t aware of, but that causes many cases of TMJ.

Since Botox® is a neuromodulator, it halts the twitchy nerve signals that cause migraine pain while relieving tension across the head too. This migraine relief can last about 4 months before repeat injections are needed.
